A Quick Guide to Concrete Sealing
Concrete sealing is an important part of protecting your floors. To help you out, we've put together this quick guide to concrete sealing.

What's the big deal about concrete sealing? Well, for starters, it extends the life and preserves the appearance of your concrete flooring. That alone makes it worth the investment.
Even so, you may still have some questions. For instance, what are the other benefits?
How many types of concrete sealer are there and what's the difference? Which type of sealant is right for you?
If you've got questions like these, you're in the right place. We've got the answers you're looking for in the following guide. Read on to learn all you need to know about sealing concrete.
The Benefits of Concrete Sealing
The main benefit of concrete sealing is that it adds a protective shell around the concrete. This shell seals away dirt, chemicals, oil, and anything else that might stain or tarnish it.
Most sealers also add a glossy finish to the concrete, making it look very chic. They also enhance the color. This beautifies the overall appearance of the flooring whether it's the standard grey variety or colored concrete.
Types of Concrete Sealers
There are 4 main types of concrete sealers: penetrating, acrylic, polyurethane, and epoxy. Of these, some are solvent-based and some are water-based. Here's an explanation of each type.
Penetrating Sealers
Unlike other types of concrete sealers, penetrating sealers don't leave a glossy finish. But they do penetrate deep into the concrete to fill in the pores, blocking out dirt, water, oil, and other substances/debris.
Acrylic Sealers
Acrylic sealers won't affect the color of your concrete but they will add a beautiful, glossy shine. They also coat the flooring with a hard acrylic shell that protects your concrete against all types of damage.
Polyurethane Sealers
Everything we just said about acrylic sealers is also true of polyurethane sealers. In addition, these sealers are even thicker than acrylics and they protect your concrete even better against scuffs and stains.
Epoxy Sealers
Epoxy sealers are the most protective, damage-resistant sealer there is. Plus, they're available with a nearly limitless variety of decorative finishes.
Some of the most popular are terrazzo epoxy, which gives your concrete a lively, mosaic appearance. Metallic epoxy finishes can make your concrete look like other flooring materials, such as marble or slate.
Solvent-Based Vs Water-Based Sealers
Polyurethanes and acrylics may be solvent-based or water-based. Generally, solvent-based sealers perform better, especially for enhancing the color/appearance of your concrete. But, due to the toxic fumes emitted during the application of solvent-based sealers, it's best to use water-based sealers for indoor concrete.
