Whether you have marble or tile flooring, you'll need to do proper floor care to preserve your flooring. Here's how to care for different types of flooring.

floor care

Did you know that replacing the tile in a 190-square-foot room could cost you as much as $4000?

That’s a lot of money, which is why floor care is critical.

Different flooring types require different types of care, so if you want to save yourself a lot of money, keep reading as we show you just how to care for your floors.

Flooring Types

First, let’s break down the most found types of flooring in homes. Fortunately, linoleum and cheap wood are outdated, and the more discerning homeowner now uses stone and tile.

Kitchen Flooring

Due to the kind of use, they’re put through, kitchen flooring types don’t vary too significantly. Kitchen floors must be tough as it’s often a high-traffic area. They also need to be spill and stain-resistant.

Travertine tile is the go-to choice for modern homeowners because it’s a beautiful, natural stone tile cheaper than marble and granite but just as good.

Other common kitchen flooring types include marble, slate, and Mexican tiles.

Bathroom Flooring

The bathroom floor takes a lot of flak, especially if you have a large family. In the past, wood and vinyl were prone to getting waterlogged, becoming moldy, and warping.

Luckily, today’s homeowners are much brighter, and tile and stone are the number one choice for hard-wearing bathroom floors.

Types of bathroom flooring, like the kitchen, include natural stone tiles such as marble, slate, and limestone. The thing about bathroom flooring is that it needs proper grouting and sealing, so you should always use professional flooring experts.

Floor Care

As mentioned above, floor care is the number one solution to costly replacements. Whether natural stone tile, porcelain, or something else, the only way you can ensure your floors last as long as you do is by taking regular loving care of them.

You can make old flooring as good as new with the help of an experienced professional.

How To Care for Your Floors

The first step in using stone is to ensure it is adequately sealed. Your flooring installer should ensure this happens, so please consult them before they complete the job.

For bathroom or kitchen flooring, ensure the area between the floor and the wall is caulked to prevent moisture from getting into the subfloor and damaging it.

The result can be cracked flooring if the wood beneath swells or a rotted spot where the flooring becomes soft.

You should regularly clean tile and natural stone with a soft, dry mop. You can use a vacuum cleaner, but make sure it has a “Hard Floor” mode that does not use a rotating brush.

Occasionally, clean the floors with a damp mop using a detergent formulated for stone or tile.

To keep the floors clean and dust-free, put mats at each entranceway. You may want to encourage your household to wear slippers or just socks indoors.

Keep rugs clean by vacuuming, shaking, or washing them if possible.

Please do not use harsh cleaners such as liquid soft scrubbers on tile or natural stone flooring; they can scratch and dull the surface.

Acidic cleaners should be avoided, such as lemon cleaners or vinegar. The acid can damage the sealer on stone flooring or stain the grout on tile flooring.
